56th Anniversary/Wedding Cake

My husband's parents are visiting from out of state and we had an afternoon reception so they could visit with friends while they are here. My husband requested that I make them a wedding cake to surprise them, since they didn't have one at their wedding. I had an idea of what I wanted to do but it wasn't until last week that I finalized the design. I wanted to avoid a stacked cake so I could cut each tier as needed so I used my floating tiered cake stand. I was planning on using fresh flowers, but opted for silk flowers which went better with the plates and napkins my daughter picked out.

The top two tiers are Lemon cake with lemon cream filling, the bottom tier was all chocolate. I wanted an ivory look instead of pure what, so all I did was used regular vanilla instead of clear and it's just a bit off white buttercream.

I am pleased with what it turned out:

Top tier 6"x 4" lemon cake with lemon cream, swiss dot pattern with shell border.
Middle tier same flavors as one above it. 10" x 4" iced with scrollwork pattern and shell border.
Bottom tier is 12" x 4", chocolate cake and filling, iced in buttercream, then I used a diamond impression mat to imprint diamond pattern.
Top view Of the first two tiers. I put the flowers together using a Styrofoam ball (cut in half) then placed the finished bouquet on top of a piece of parchment paper. When we cut the cake I simply removed the flower bouquet and placed it in place of the cake, the cut the cake. Worked very well. The next cake is still a mystery, maybe a contest, maybe a mother's day cake, don't really know, but I am sure there is a cake out there really to be created!
